Emma Lake and surroundings
My artwork is not actually all about Emma Lake. That being said, since our family has been going there since I was a child, I am attached to the area and end up painting there pretty much every year. The once remote location of Emma Lake in Saskatchewan has attracted artists for decades, originally to an art school founded in 1936 and later to artist workshops, often led by prominent international artists and critics. Affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan, the campus has been closed in recent years. When I was growing up Emma Lake seemed quite wild. Development in the surrounding area has changed the atmosphere and forest dramatically and sadly, not for the better.
